She is Strong and Mindful offers the following support to parents:
Many parents need support and assistance in developing a strong bond with their young children based on safety and nurturing. This is especially challenging when a child is showing mental health or behavioral problems or is experiencing post-traumatic stress. As an extension of the individual services provided to my clients, I also offer Child-Parent Psychotherapy to assist with this process. This is an evidence-based therapy for children from birth through age 5. It brings the child and caregiver together and reinforces the bond between them, while also helping the parent understand her child’s development, including emotions, communication, cognition, physical changes and socialization.
Facilitated family meetings are a special opportunity for parents and children to express themselves and communicate changes, concerns, wishes and any other matters where support may be needed. The goal is to bring the entire family to a space where everyone feels comfortable and heard, and parents can listen to their children’s needs while at the same time teaching them valuable social and life skills.
Guiding parents and their children on how to handle a difficult conversation, or just providing guidance on how to communicate their needs with each other, allows for healthy communication, respect and mutual understanding. This experience enables the family to develop a structured and solid foundation for communication that they can carry with them and practice at home.
